I’M NOT PERFECT
By Sean Dietrich
Okay, we all know that no one is perfect. Though some people are caught up in the illusion that they are! When I was on a church staff, we all carried an attitude like we were completely unfamiliar with sin. Oh sure, we all knew that sin existed somewhere in the distance. But we never touched the stuff!
I was sin-illiterate! What’s worse is I actually believed it too! I was in chains. I had a great little act going on. YUK!
I’D BE FINE IF ONLY I WEREN’T HUMAN
The hard fact of the matter is I am human. I have instincts to do what makes me feel good! I have instincts to sin! When I am wronged, I feel anger. When I am exalted too much, I become prideful. Sometimes I’m lazy, and sometimes I am selfish. I wish I could say that I withstand every temptation the devil throws at me, but it’s not true.
Jesus is working himself out in my life every day. He’s still changing me from the inside out. And this never stops! Boy, there’s a lot of work to be done! But this is all part of being human.
GUILT IS NOT FUN
I used to beat myself up for not being perfect. And you know, for a couple minutes, it actually made me feel a little better! It also made me look “spiritual” to the people around me! But God doesn’t want us to be guilty. He wants us to be encouraged at what he’s doing inside us! Jesus said it best to the woman who was caught in adultery, “…who condemns you now?”
Jesus knew that you would make tons of mistakes after you decided to follow him. He knew you would hit big homeruns with his help. But he also knew that you would strike out a lot too! Don’t beat yourself up like I did. Beating yourself will get you nowhere. It will only drive you deeper into shame. God’s not in the shame game!
Realize that you, me, Apostle Paul, and Billy Graham are nothing but sinners saved by his love. We will never ever be anything more than just that! Average sinners saved by his love, and nothing more.
BE HAPPY
If you are following Jesus, I know he must be doing some amazing things inside of you. Of course you’re not perfect! Your Father knows that better than you do. We’ve all been infected with the sin-disease. The only question is; do you have his cure? If you are following him, then you already have the cure! So be happy! Jesus is working himself out inside of you every day!
