OBSESSED WITH JESUS

Jesus’ disciples were crazy! They wandered from town to town, slept out under the stars, and wore the same clothes on many occasions. They spent all their time following a blue-collar carpenter around like 12 lost puppies. There was something wrong with these men. They were obsessed with this guy from Galilee!

Whenever the disciples saw their old friends, they talked about one man. Jesus. Whenever the 12 disciples met strangers, they talked about one man. Jesus. Even after Jesus rose from the dead and ascended to the heavens, they still only talked about one man. Jesus! They were truly obsessed with him. Today, we call the disciples saints. But back then they were well known as nut cases!

Paul was the same way. He was completely obsessed with Jesus too. He didn’t waste time preaching expositions from the book of Daniel or Ezekiel. He was always talking about Jesus! Come on Paul! Why not show some smarts and talk about some doctrine!?

Paul was clearly a smart man; he could have blown everyone’s mind with an eloquent speech on Mosaic Covenant Theology. Why didn’t he use his brain? Instead, Paul was running around talking about a man who came from the slums of Nazareth. Most Jewish scholars thought Paul had lost his lid. He was just too obsessed with Jesus!

JESUS FREAKS

The big group of hippies in Jerusalem, who were known as the “church,” was crazy too. They met together all the time to hang out. What do you think they talked about when they hung out? That’s easy. Jesus! Just think, if you had Peter, James and John in your living room, what would you want to hear them talk about? Doctrine? Nope. We’d want to hear them talk about Jesus!

There’s a pattern here. The great spiritual explosions in Jerusalem had nothing to do with good preaching or airtight doctrines. The greatest revivals in history had absolutely nothing to do with clever men or good speakers. Every true spiritual awakening has always been centered on Jesus!

WHO’S NAME IS ON THE CHURCH SIGN?

Today, allot of professional religious leaders talk about positive thinking. Many sermons are preached on family life, leadership, spiritual gifts and tithing, etc. But where is the obsession with Jesus in these organizations? If these institutions aren’t crazy about Jesus, what are they crazy about? Maybe they’re just crazy all together.

When I was in a religious organization, I used to be obsessed with many spiritual things, but there wasn’t much fascination with Jesus. Sure, I was a part of Jesus’ body, but I thought little about him. I was too busy with other stuff! This is how I used to live! It’s miserable too. When I finally caught the obsession, and found out how wonderful Jesus was, no one could shut me up!

After I became infatuated with Jesus, I was a different man. Suddenly, all I could think about was the man from Galilee. Every waking moment was spent thinking about Jesus. I could actually feel him with me, and I talked to him all the time. It was almost like a middle-school crush! The only difference is; I don’t have braces, and Jesus loves me more than I can imagine!

ARE YOU PURPOSE DRIVEN OR JESUS SMITTEN?

So what is our life’s purpose? Is it dress rehearsal for heaven like many have said? Nope! Is it to win as many souls as we can? Sorry, but nope! Our purpose is to love the Lord our God with all of our heart soul and mind! The rest will follow.

How many people today are actually in love with church programs, pastors and leather-bound bibles instead of Jesus himself? It’s a downright shame! If we are hopelessly in love with Jesus, the other things will follow. Jesus is God’s adored son, in whom God is well pleased! Jesus is head over heels in love with you. Are you absolutely obsessed with him?

I used to be a good little Christian, but now I am smitten with Jesus. It’s the only way to live.
