HAVE A PARTY

Some of us Jesus people here in Destin, FL had this idea. What if we invited all of our believing friends to a huge barbeque, no matter what denomination or clique they belonged to? After all, we all serve the same Jesus right? So why don’t we all hang out together if we are of the same body and live in the same city? So we threw a party!

It was great! We had a house full of people who loved Jesus, what could be better than that! People who love Jesus were getting to know each other. The greatest part of the day was when people were gathering up their empty food dishes and exchanging phone numbers with one another. New friendships were beginning right in the living room! I am so excited at what Jesus is doing!

CHURCH IS BORING

There are so many walls between elite Christian “groups” today. The Baptists, Methodists, and Charismatics each have built private walls around themselves. They attend the same preaching club every Sunday with the exact same people. What’s worse is that many denominational zealots are simply seeking to recruit more people to join their club rather than share Jesus. The result is a religious sect.

Sadly, I used to spin my wheels trying to get people to believe my pet doctrines rather than simply extending Jesus’ love to them. There is no “life” in this attitude. Manipulating people to get on “my page” doctrinally is simply not the way Jesus does things. Why not get together, simply hang out, and put aside our differences? What does it matter if my brother believes in a pre, post, or mid-tribulation theory?

Jesus, in his mercy, has lifted me out of my religious pit into his glorious light! I see now that each follower of Jesus has the unique privilege of uniting with the other followers who are a part of Jesus’ body.

We can kick back and have fun with Baptists, Methodists, Charismatics, Pentecostals, Home-Churchers and anyone who loves Jesus! I have met many dear brothers and sisters who are at different spots on their journey with God; I thank the Lord for the opportunity to hang out with these incredible brothers and sisters who Jesus loves very much.

JESUS PEOPLE UNITE!

So what are we going to do about these walls? Chances are we won’t change the world tomorrow, but there is still much we can do! Why not get out the address book, call all of our friends up, and have a bash? Let’s make an effort to knock down the walls between Christians! Hey, while we are at it, let’s make an effort to knock down the walls between Christians and non-believers too! It can all happen right in our own living rooms!

We had a wonderful time this past weekend, and I hope that other Jesus people will start to open their homes too. We have really enjoyed getting to know people who love Jesus. We have also enjoyed meeting people who don’t know him at all.
